Light Sensor
Each time the GPS turns on to attempt a GPS location a relative light reading is taken and put into the data set along with GPS position using a very small sensor. Although the sensor can be factory adjusted to be more sensitive at low light or bright light situations. Then that information will be stored and output to the dataset and become available for remote download. We’re happy to customize all this for you in advance so it’s important you plan well in advance. These custom features take trial and error before deployment. We can set you up with sample GPS devices for you to test the outputs in different light level situations.
The light sensor is also used to inform the GPS schedule, either skipping or adding GPS positions to your schedule. But, with wildlife, there’s always a chance the animal won’t cooperate, so we need to mitigate the chances that anything shades the sensor, things like dirt and caked on mud.
